Optitrac® profiles can be configured for various combinations of fibre and power cabling. While the patent was not specifically intended for
tram or suspended light or monorail solutions, the modularity and configurability of the solution also means that several aspects of the solution
can be adapted and integrated with other designs to create consistency and continuity of ground rail networks, fibre or power
transmission networks. This includes monorail, light rail, or tram networks within urban areas.
Examples of Dual Beam Ballastless Track Profiles
Examples of Single Beam Ballastless Track Profiles
The majority of railway tracks are still flat-bottom steel rails supported on concrete sleepers. Due to various advances in the last twenty to thirty years there has been significant progress in technology to improve rail systems towards ballastless pre-cast structures.
As with stand-alone cabling and telecommunication solution infrastructures, stand-alone ballasted track infrastructure is expensive, but requires lower cost of maintenance in the long run.
The modularity of the Optitrac® solution, combined with railway engineering, telecoms and power producer partners, offers the standard advantages of a ballastless rail system, being slab, single or dual or beam based systems, incorporating an all-in-one embedded optic fibre and power transmission infrastructure.
The solution is also ideally suited for specific sections of railway, such as ports, mines, tunnels, bridges and railway stations, where power and communications infrastructure cannot be put underground or is severely exposed to theft or frequent damage.
Optitrac’s unique and innovative solution may be customised to client requirements whether utilised in passenger, freight or heavy-haul systems. With our strategic partners we can provide a combined solution adapted to your specific requirements.

Optitrac® is an integrated infrastructure solution based on ballastless railway infrastructure, creating servitudes within the railway servitude. Effectively this creates an embedded cable ducting system develped to reduce the cost and carbon footprint of building, upgrading and maintaining railways, roads, power transmission, and terrestrial fibre. The system was developed for driving sustainability in infrastructure development.
Examples of Dual Gauge Track Profiles
For example using Dual Gauge tracks allows for mixed use rolling stock or to enable the transitioning from existing narrow gauge trains to standard or wide gauge trains over time. This means that existing rolling stock can continue to be used, at the same time
and on the same railway track as newer standard or wide gauge models such as those used for high speed rail. Third rails can
then be removed and redeployed for use on other sections, or recycled.
Optitrac® provides the standard advantages of a ballastless rail system, being slab or beam based systems, but also incorporates provision for an all-in-one embedded optic fibre and power transmission infrastructure. The same system can be adapted for various environments and even for enabling dual guage railways in order to leverage the economic life of existing rolling stock.
