Ballastless tracks have more consistent track geometries which reduces wear and roll resistance on the rolling stock. It requires less maintenance and has longer economic life spans.
Optitrac® profile designs can be optimised and configured for various combinations
of fibre and power cabling, as well as for specific railway environments such
as road crossings, bridges, and stations.
The modularity and configurability of the solution means that several
aspects of the solution can be integrated with other engineering designs to create
consistency and continuity of ground rail networks, fibre or power transmission
networks. This includes monorail, light rail, or tram networks within urban areas.
Examples of Dual Beam Ballastless Track Profiles
Examples of Single Beam Ballastless Track Profiles
The majority of railway tracks worldwide are still flat-bottom steel rails supported on timber or pre-stressed concrete sleepers. Due to various disadvantages in the last twenty to thirty years there has been advancement in technology to improve rail systems from this type of conventional ballasted track system to non-ballast modular pre-cast reinforced structures.
As with stand-alone cabling and telecommunication solution infrastructures, stand-alone ballasted track infrastructure is expensive, but requires lower cost of maintenance in the long run.
The modularity of the Optitrac® solution, combined with telecoms and power producer partners, offers the standard advantages of a ballastless rail system, being slab, single or dual or beam based systems, incorporating an all-in-one embedded optic fibre and power transmission infrastructure.
The solution is also ideally suited for specific sections of railway, such as ports, mines, tunnels, bridges and railway stations, where power and communications infrastructure cannot be put underground or is severely exposed to theft or frequent damage.
Optitrac’s unique and innovative solution may be customised to client requirements whether utilised in passenger, freight or heavy-haulage based transport systems. With our strategic partners we can provide a combined solution adapted to your specific requirements.

The patent revolves around a Modular and Circular Economics approach for converting existing railways into ballastless track sections with embedded power and fibre optic cabling and breakout nodes, while recycling the steel and balast (rocks) of older rail tracks.
One servitude optimised for enabling flexible and integrated next generation infrastructure!
Examples of Dual Gauge Track Profiles
For example using Dual Gauge tracks allows for mixed use rolling stock or to
transition from existing narrow gauge trains to standard or wide gauge trains over
time. Third rails can be redeployed for use on other sections or recycled.
The Optitrac® modular solution, combined with partner products and service offerings, offers the standard advantages of a ballastless rail system, being slab or beam based systems, incorporating an all-in-one embedded optic fibre and power transmission infrastructure.
